A3L-FEC: Age-Aware Application Layer Forward Error Correction Flow Control

Abstract summary. Introduces A³L-FEC, an age-aware flow-control algorithm that generates packets on top of UDP and uses rateless/packet-level FEC to adapt redundancy and transmission rate to network conditions and freshness requirements. Its goal is to control peak age and reduce age violations. Evaluations in Mininet-WiFi and MATLAB indicate it reduces age violations compared with TCP-BBR and ACP+. Two variants (FSFB and VSVB) and a multiserver extension are presented.

Abstract summary. Presents the FSFB variant of A³L-FEC: an application-layer, age-aware status-update mechanism over UDP with a fixed sampling rate and fixed block length. Using packet-level MDS coding and a stationary independent selection policy with receiver-driven feedback, it reduces age violations and serves as the baseline that motivated the adaptive VSVB design.
