What the patent describes

The patent describes an age-aware, FEC-based method for adjusting how fast a sender transmits status updates. Instead of optimizing for throughput, the method uses feedback from mean delay and Age of Information parameters to decide the transmission rate.

By jointly tuning the sampling rate (how often new updates are generated) and the amount of data redundancy (the forward-error-correction coding), the method keeps information fresh while avoiding congestion — adding just enough redundancy to recover from losses without overloading the link. This balance between freshness and redundancy is the core idea that A³L-FEC implements in practice.
